What is NZeTA?
To facilitate tourism while enhancing security, the New Zealand government introduced the NZeTA in October 2019. This document is an electronic visa waiver that makes it easier for citizens of South Korea and many other countries to travel to the island nation. This new visa waiver system eliminates the need for travellers to obtain a visa through the local embassy or consulate. Conversely, those visiting New Zealand for a short stay can complete an online application and receive their NZeTA, usually within hours. The NZeTA is also a security measure as it allows New Zealand border guards to screen travellers before they arrive in the country and identify potential threats.
As a tourist with South Korean citizenship, you can stay in New Zealand for a maximum of three months without having to apply for a visa. However, from 1 October 2019, you must have a New Zealand e-Travel Authority (NZeTA) before entering New Zealand. NZETA is not a visa. NZeTA applications can be made online and take around ten minutes. Processing can take up to 72 hours, so request your NZeTA at the appropriate time. There will be a fee.
