British nationals visiting the country for a short time as a tourist are eligible for the New Zealand Visa Waiver Scheme. However, this does not mean that a travel authorization document is completely unnecessary. Instead, you must apply for the NZeTA online. This waiver document entitles you to travel to New Zealand and visit its many attractions.

It usually takes a few minutes for confirmation to come. However, get the ETA for New Zealand at least 72 hours before departure to be safe. But it's easiest to get them after your New Zealand holiday is booked so you don't have to remember.
The main requirement for applying for the NZeTA is eligible nationality under the online visa program. Documents required include a clear copy of your passport and a valid photo with a white background without any facial or head defects.
If you are traveling to another destination via Auckland International Airport, you can apply for an NZeTA transit document. This allows UK passengers to be on board their aircraft or in the transit area of the airport without the need for other documents. However, you are not allowed to leave the airport with this type of document. Transit documents are also valid for 2 years and can be used for multiple trips.
If you wish to visit areas outside the airport, you must apply for a regular ETA.
The New Zealand eTA is valid for multiple visits and can be used for two years. So, you can also travel to New Zealand with confidence, then travel to Fiji or Australia and then return to New Zealand with the same visa. You will also have to pay IVL or International Visitor Tax and Tourism Conservation. It serves the country's infrastructure development and environmental protection. IVL is only submitted every 2 years.
NZeTA should not last more than 5-7 days. You have the option of choosing an express visa, which takes around 24/48 hours. You are advised to process your visa at least 10 working days in advance if possible.

Once an application is submitted, an eTA is often approved within one hour, although in rare cases it can take up to three working days (72 hours) for approval to be processed.
For this reason, UK nationals are advised to apply for a New Zealand eTA well in advance of the intended date of travel to allow time for approval. UK citizens traveling with children or other family members should note that each person must apply for their New Zealand eTA separately, even if they hold the same passport.
